I’m a Swedish-Canadian writer and reviewer of speculative fiction. I was born and grew up in Sweden, and debuted as a writer there, but moved to Canada a long time ago. Currently, I’m located just outside Vancouver with two kids, a husband, a snake, several noisy birds, and a very large black dog. I'm a fiction editor at House of Gamut, a member of the Many Worlds collective, and a staff writer at Psychopomp.
My short fiction is available in the short story collection Wolves & Girls (2023 from Brain Jar Press) and in the short story collection Six Dreams About the Train (2021, Trepidatio Publishing). My work has appeared in several publications and anthologies, including Best Horror of the Year, Nightmare, Lightspeed, The Deadlands, Black Static, Fireside, Shimmer, Cast of Wonders, Mythic Delirium, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Flash Fiction Online, and elsewhere.
Maria's Reading is the place to find my reviews, roundups, and reading recommendations. My website is mariahaskins.com and that's where I will post all my writing-related news and content. This blog will be the go-to spot for all my old reviews and roundups as well as my new reading-related content.
