I’m a Swedish-Canadian writer and reviewer of speculative fiction. I was born and grew up in Sweden, and debuted as a writer there, but moved to Canada a long time ago. Currently, I’m located just outside Vancouver with two kids, a husband, a snake, several noisy birds, and a very large black dog. I'm a member of the Many Worlds collective. Previous exploits include being a fiction editor at Gamut Magazine, a staff writer at Psychopomp, and a regular contributor at Strange Horizons.
My short fiction is available in the short story collections Wolves & Girls (2023 from Brain Jar Press) and Six Dreams About the Train (2021, Trepidatio Publishing). My work has also appeared in several publications and anthologies, including Best Horror of the Year, Nightmare, Lightspeed, The Deadlands, Black Static, Fireside, Shimmer, Cast of Wonders, Mythic Delirium, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Flash Fiction Online, and elsewhere.
Maria's Reading is the place to find my reviews, roundups, and reading recommendations. My website is mariahaskins.com and that's where I will post all my writing-related news and content.
